HAWTHORNE, Nev.—When your community is 75 miles from Walmart and two hours from the nearest Target or Starbucks, fellowship with those outside of your little community is a treasure. The ladies of First Baptist Church filled that need when they hosted the northern churches of the California Association of Regular Baptist Churches ladies’ retreat in October. While Hawthorne is not in California, the churches of Nevada (both of them) fellowship with the CARBC.

The ladies chose the theme “Standing on God’s Promises.” Sherrie Ashcraft, whose husband had pastored in the area years earlier, spoke of God’s faithfulness. Sherrie marvelously communicated the theme through four sessions of Bible exposition, transparent anecdotes, and sharp humor. The theme was also displayed through rainbow decorations and Scripture promises placed throughout the church.

The ladies enjoyed making a craft and participated in a photo contest with pictures they took from around Hawthorne. A huge disappointment—not one of the ladies was able to capture a picture of the local bighorn sheep. The ladies also dined on a wide variety of foods, including cheesecake, Cajun stew, and bacon wrapped stuffed pork loin. All the way around, it was a wonderful weekend of fellowship, challenge, food, and fun.
