CANDY ARRINGTON and KIM ATCHLEY, Harvest House, 291 Pages, Paper, $14.99

Today’s Baby Boomers and even younger people are dealing with caring for their aging parents. The authors of this helpful book write from personal experience what it is like to provide the best care possible. Interestingly, both experienced writers discovered that each was coming up with a book on the same topic. So they decided to collaborate instead.

Important issues are covered in the valuable chapters: balancing one’s own life needs with the caregivingof aging parents, the problem of distance (people often don’t live in the same communities they grew up in and where their parents still live), interacting with the practitioners, effectively communicating, addressing difficult topics (such as money, insurance, lifestyle, death), hearing and vision changes, cognitive decline, social needs, mental and spiritual health, and safety issues. At the back of the book are a number of forms, checklists, and other tools.

The authors positively note, “Although it’s easy to get mired in the difficulties of caregiving, joys also exist during this phase of life. With an open mind and heart, you’ll receive blessings far beyond any you asked for or dreamed of along with the assurance of God’s loving, guiding hand.”
