ALTOONA, Iowa—Altoona Regular Baptist Church held its 7th Annual Sportsmen’s Banquet. This free event is one of the church’s biggest outreach events of the year.
On the evening of Feb. 4 the auditorium was filled with nearly 250 people, all telling one another hunting and fishing stories over occasional bursts of laughter. Meanwhile, the fellowship hall was filled with the aromas of venison stew, slow-cooked squirrel, smoked goose breasts, venison jerky, southern fried fish, venison roast with rice, pulled pork, and venison goulash.
Pastor Chris Humburg of Altoona Regular Baptist Church was the speaker. He shared hunting experiences that avid hunters, those who have never hunted before, and those in between enjoyed and appreciated. The entertaining and enlightening evening gave way for the opportunity to share the gospel to the attentive audience. Several people accepted Christ as their Savior that night, and others requested more information about how to have a personal relationship with Him.
A fun ending to the evening was the opportunity for everyone to drop their name cards into a basket for a drawing of sportsman-themed prizes, which had been donated by individuals and local businesses.
