MARSHALL, Minn.—About 50 children in kindergarten through sixth grade participated in soccer camp sponsored by First Baptist Church. Camp began Sunday evening, Aug. 2, and ran for two hours each evening through Wednesday, Aug. 5. First Baptist uses this ministry in a similar way to VBS, by including Bible teaching, Scripture memory, and songs.
The soccer portion of the program was overseen by Ann Brownlee, a mother of three who played while attending Southwest Minnesota State University and has experience in coaching youth. Pastor Zac Patke taught a series of lessons on Christ being the goal, based on the book of Philippians.
“Soccer camp was an effective means to teach gospel principles to our church children and evangelize their unsaved friends,” says Pastor Greg Linscott. “It also provided a tremendous venue for our ethnically diverse congregation to minister together on a level platform.”
