MARILLA, N.Y.—Mud and an obstacle course were the basis for a youth event called “Out of the Darkness” Oct. 4. This is the third year First Baptist Church has helped plan and provide for the event, joining the efforts of Grace Baptist, Batavia, N.Y., and two additional churches in the state.
This year the event took the form of a muddy obstacle course on wooded property generously loaned for the occasion. “God provided rain, and it turned out to be a great event,” says Zack Dawson, youth pastor at First Baptist. Over six churches were represented, bringing around 250 students and their leaders.
In addition to the epic obstacle course, the students also enjoyed a bonfire, hayrides, inflatable bounce house, and dinner.
While “Out of the Darkness” was fun, Dawson says, the purpose was to share the gospel with students. Tim Snyder, youth pastor of Riverdale Baptist Church, Flint, Mich., clearly presented the message of salvation. Dawson says, “It was great to partner with other churches for the common goal of sharing Christ with students!”
