Pastor Mark Cizauskas speaks at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—The Michigan Association of Regular Baptist Churches held its annual conference at Forest Hills Baptist Church Oct. 11–12.

With the theme “Focus on What Matters,” the conference offered “challenging Biblical messages and opportunities for strategic interaction as the association looks to the future,” says Ken Floyd, executive director of the MARBC.

And those things that matter to the MARBC are found in the word FOCUS: Foundations, Opportunities, Collaboration, Understanding, and Strategy.

Ken served as one of the speakers, along with Mark Cizauskas, pastor of First Baptist Church, Rochester, Michigan; Doug Crawford, pastor of West Cannon Baptist Church, Belmont, Michigan; and Jeff Burr, pastor of Forest Hills Baptist Church and chairman of the MARBC Council of 16.

In October, Ken began his 16th year as director of the MARBC. Next year will be his last, he says, as he plans to retire at the end of December 2022. He and his wife, Sharon, “give thanks for the many ways in which God has blessed our association. We believe that there are many special ministry opportunities for the association in the coming years as our Lord tarries.”

The conference sessions featured not only preaching but also panel discussions, group interaction, and a Q and A, each of which addressed the transition plan for 2022 and a refined ministry model beginning in 2023.

That new ministry model, Ken says, may involve shared leadership of the MARBC. The role of executive director of the fellowship has “expanded to a point where one person would be unable to lead effectively moving forward,” he observes.

“The challenging times we have experienced during the pandemic have reminded all of us of how precious our relationship with God through Christ truly is and how valuable it is to have a Biblically focused and connected network of churches,” Ken says.

“We look forward to God’s continued direction and blessings upon our association in the coming months, as well as the new opportunities He will bring in the future as we partner together for His glory.”
