PLAINFIELD, Ind.—Pastors and deacons from Indiana’s Crossroads Fellowship churches attended a leadership summit focused on the ministry of deacons. Calvary Church in Plainfield hosted the event Jan. 8.

Attendees considered the role of deacons, learned how deacons and pastors can work well together, and discovered how deacons can help their churches’ pastors.

“Deacons truly are a gift of God to the church,” the fellowship says. Those who attended demonstrated a “great spirit of learning and purposeful reflection.”

The leadership summit was a first for Crossroads Fellowship, which is led by Director Jon Beight. “We want churches to be all that God intends them to be, and that starts with the leaders,” the fellowship says.

Crossroads Fellowship will hold its next leadership summit Oct. 1 at Rock Point Church, Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Children’s ministry leaders will learn about storytelling techniques and gospel-centered lessons. Small group leaders will consider three roles of leaders that will help their groups be healthy. And pastors will receive coaching in presenting sermons. Attendees’ children in grades 1–5 are invited as well for a fun program including a Bible lesson, games, and crafts.
