WINFIELD, Ill.—Faith Baptist Church celebrated its 50th anniversary. Pastor David Wasson invited David Washington Jr., pastor of Canton (Mich.) Christian Fellowship Church, to speak for the morning worship service Nov. 16.
“Great things are happening here at Faith Baptist, and great things are still to come,” Washington says.
Faith Baptist Church began through the efforts of several pastors and laymen interested in starting a Baptist church in Winfield. Calvin Schrodt was called as the first pastor in January 1964 and served until 1967. Succeeding him in ministry were Robert Mason (1968–1969); James Wells (1980–1984); Glen E. Crabb (1985–1993); Tom Hamilton (1994–2000); and Robert C. Newman (1969–1980), author of the Kids’ Questions series of books published by Regular Baptist Press. Newman’s coauthor, Cheryl Fawcett, was director of Christian education during his pastorate, serving from 1977 to 1980. David Wasson has been pastor since 2003.
Since its inception, Faith Baptist has desired to impact its world for Christ through supporting missions worldwide and reaching its neighbors with the gospel. The church opens its doors to the community through endeavors including a food pantry, clothes closet, Life Line health screenings, and police and fire training. In addition, the church offers crisis counseling through chaplaincy with the local fire department.

“We are thankful for our history and for those who have faithfully served their Savior here at Faith,” the church says. “By God’s grace and help, we continue ministering to our community and to the world on this corner location of Winfield, Ill. We are excited to see what the next 50 years will bring.”
As Washington says, God started Faith Baptist Church on its journey of ministry, and He is not finished yet.
