ELYRIA, Ohio—Ninety-six senior adults from three Ohio churches—First Baptist in Elyria, First Baptist in LaGrange, and First Baptist in Wellington—traveled to Sugarcreek, Ohio, to see the play Home Game at the new 500-seat Ohio Star Theater. Prior to watching the play, whose story line is similar to that of the Prodigal Son parable, the group enjoyed a family-style Amish meal.
Under the leadership of Craig Golden, associate pastor of senior adult ministries at First Baptist Church in Elyria, monthly day trips (and sometimes longer trips) are planned for the enjoyment and fellowship of the seniors from these three churches. Whether the trips involve factory tours, historic sites, museums, plays, concerts, zoos, zip lines, cruises, train rides, dune buggy rides, or sleigh rides, the important thing is not what the seniors do or where they go, but who they do it with, Golden says. “It’s about fellowship and building relationships while enjoying fun together.”
