SHELBY, Mich.—Dads and their young daughters at Shelby Road Baptist Church created lasting memories the week of Valentine’s Day. On Feb. 20, girls ages 2 through fifth grade brought their dads to the church for Daddy/Daughter Date Night.
As the couples arrived in semiformal attire, they enjoyed punch and hors d’oeuvres and had their photos taken. They ate an elegant meal and then took part in activities around the theme “Princesses and Pets.” Each couple chose a stuffed animal and then completed the adoption process at seven stations: Together the girls and their dads named their pets, made blankets and outfits for them, bathed and groomed them, visited the vet, created collars, and took them to obedience school.
The church also provided Daddy and Me and Grandpa and Me booklets for each couple to fill out. They finished such sentences as, “My favorite thing to do with my dad is. . . . ”
“It was a great night watching dads taking the time to impact their daughters,” says Paul Austin, associate pastor of youth and children’s ministries.
