MULBERRY, Fla.—Shepherd Road Baptist Church celebrated its 40th anniversary. That’s “40 years of worshiping God and teaching His Word, 40 years of loving each other, 40 years of pointing people to Christ and being involved in missions,” says Amy Collins, wife of Pastor Gary Collins.
Dale Golden, a charter member of Shepherd Road Baptist and one of its first deacons, spoke during a Saturday night celebration service. He had been a student at Spurgeon Baptist Bible College in 1975 when a small group of believers assembled on the campus to begin the church.
Pastor Collins then guided attendees down memory lane, telling them of salvations, baptisms, church growth, and the many men from Spurgeon whom the church ordained. One of those men, Pastor Walter McDonald, preached on Sunday morning. He and his wife, Beverly, are missionaries with Baptist Church Planters, planting Providence Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Pastor Allen Balsley, who ministered at Shepherd Road Baptist for over 20 years, related more memories Sunday evening.
Throughout the weekend, members shared not only many moments of fellowship and love, but also an excited expectation that God will continue to use His local church on Shepherd Road in Mulberry, Florida.
