Middle school and high school students meet online for Iowa Regular Baptist Camp’s Lighthouse Live.

VENTURA, Iowa—Iowa Regular Baptist Camp has begun hosting online events for youth workers and students. The idea arose when COVID-19 restrictions were instated in much of the US, resulting in youth groups being unable to meet in person and youth workers learning how to move their ministries from face-to-face to digital interaction.

“This is a time to get creative about ministering the Word,” says Tim Capon, state representative of the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

On Thursday nights Jason Reynolds, program director at the camp, leads a group of nearly 70 students online in playing games, studying the book of James, and participating in small group breakout times with adult leaders. The event is called Lighthouse Live, for students in grades six through 12. “We have had a lot of fun together seeing kids from all over the state join us each week,” Jason says. “It has been a wonderful opportunity for the kids to interact with others and grow together during this time of self-isolation.”

“Jason has a heart for our young people, and I thank God for him, and for directing him to this online youth ministry,” Tim says.

On a separate night, 25 youth workers met online “to discuss ideas on digital youth ministry during COVID-19,” Jason says. “There were lots of good ideas and great discussion on how to keep ministering to our state’s youth during our isolation.” The event, Youth Workers’ Hangout, is a ministry of the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches State Youth Committee.
