WINFIELD, Ill.—The ladies’ ministry at Faith Baptist Church enjoyed a ThanksGIVING Fellowship Nov. 5.

The theme for the evening was “A Thankful Heart Gives,” with Sarah Gunn speaking on “Giving Is a Choice.” Sarah is the wife of David Gunn, director of Regular Baptist Press, and homeschooling mom to their children, Caleb and Felix.

“Her captivating message was full of truth and encouragement from Scripture, mixed with fun,” says Judy Polifka, who oversees the women’s ministry.

Sarah ended with 16 (plus a bonus) fascinating and unusual ways to give to others.

“Pens and paper came out of purses as the women were challenged with new ways to give,” Judy says. “And when the evening was over, a few women were wondering when we could have Sarah come back. We would highly recommend Sarah Gunn to our fellow churches as a wonderful speaker for ladies’ events.”

That evening the ladies had the opportunity to demonstrate the theme of giving. For the past month the group had been encouraging the church to fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and necessities for children around the world. When children receive the boxes, those kids will also hear the gospel.

Stacked on a table that night were the shoeboxes—more than 80 of them—that church members had filled. The ladies gathered around the table and prayed for the children who would receive them.

While one table held the shoeboxes, the tables for the guests had been decorated by ladies from the church, one of whom, Abby Poff, a teen, was a first-time table decorator for such an event. The ladies also brought snacks and desserts they enjoy during holidays, along with the recipes. The recipes will be assembled into cookbook reminders of the event for everyone who attended.

Judy says, “We thank God for an evening with our friends that was full and fun, with fellowship focused on giving because we are so thankful to Him.”
