Food Pantry Provides Dinner to Remember

By December 21, 2014No Comments

FortMyersFL_inlineFORT MYERS, Fla.—Daniels Road Baptist Church hosted its third annual dinner for Soul Food Pantry families. More than 250 people participated Dec. 12 and provided over 170 gifts to kids in need.

Daniels Road Baptist adopted the kids of the families who visit the church’s food pantry and provided Christmas presents. Mike Miulli, pantry director, says, “This is another way DRBC helps the families who visit the food pantry.” Without the support of the church, many of these families would go without food and gifts for their kids.

This year the church provided a Bible for each family, and each child received a pair of pajamas. “The purpose of the church is to help the community we serve,” says Pastor Erik Bennett. “Our goal for the evening was twofold: share the Word of God and give the families a night to forget about any issues they are facing.”

Jason Unger, a chef with with JMU Personal Chef Services, prepared pasta and salad for the families as well as a candy buffet for the kids. Several companies provided food donations: Olive Garden, Panera Bread, Mimi’s Café, Two Meatballs in the Kitchen, and Costco.

Daniels Road Baptist started Soul Food Pantry in 2009 to address increasing community needs. An average of 100 families visit each week. The food pantry is open every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and is available to anyone in need.
