Thomas Hammond, Pastor and Institutional Chaplain

CONKLIN, Mich.—Thomas Hammond, 61, died on Nov. 13, 2009, in an automobile accident while on his way to watch one of his favorite activities, high school football.

Tom was a graduate of Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music and Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary. He started his ministry as a youth pastor and served in that capacity at several churches. Later he served at Cedar Heights Baptist Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and worked with Campus Bible Fellowship at the University of Northern Iowa. Starting in 1989 he was pastor of Kent City Baptist Church, Kent City, Mich., for 14 years.

For the past five years he served as chaplain of the Newaygo County Correctional Facility in Michigan with Forgotten Man Ministries. He also drove a school bus for the Kent Intermediate School District.

Tom was passionate about God and telling everyone he could about God’s Word and the love of Jesus.

Tom is survived by his wife of 40 years, June; four children, Christy Williams, Cathy, Craig, and Chad; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Mike.
