Turkey Calls and Gospel Calls

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.—Three hundred people attended the Outdoor Adventures Banquet at Calvary Baptist Church, enjoying meals of outdoor game delicacies, door prizes, drawings, displays of trophies, and exhibits from local taxidermist and sport shops.

Guest speaker Jack McCullough gave expert instruction on turkey calling and hunting, then shared his testimony and a gospel message. McCullough was formerly the pastor of First Baptist Church, Monroe, Iowa, also serving as pastor of churches in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois. After earning an undergraduate degree in animal science from Kansas State University, McCullough entered the ministry, serving as a pastor for 35 years and as a chaplain in the Army National Guard and Reserves. He is regional director of the Fellowship of Christian Sportsmen Plus and a writer for www.sportsmensdevotional.com.

Steve Barton, pastor of outreach and worship at Calvary Baptist, explains that the event was planned so church members could invite friends to a relationship-building community event that would give them opportunities to share the gospel. Barton encouraged church members to be purposeful in their outdoor activities instead of simply enjoying them for themselves.

“The event is planned and executed by a committee of laymen, led by two of our current deacons, T. J. Rees and Ryan Zwicke, who are passionate to make their outdoor activities count for Christ,” Pastor Barton says.
