Still Serving in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb.—Nebraska might be home to the mighty Huskers football team, but some of the most amazing individuals in the state are on another type of team. Two elderly women from Temple Baptist Church are making an impact for the Lord’s team despite their age.

At 91, Virginia Gillespie has trouble seeing and needs help to read and take notes. This does not stop her from teaching a weekly Bible study of 12 to 14 ladies. She listens to recordings of the Bible, a friend reads commentaries to her, and her grand-nephew’s wife writes notes for her study in large, easy-to-see letters.

“I think we might study the Minor Prophets next, since I have not studied those texts,” Virginia says.

Betty Pulver is a spunky 75-year-old who regularly teaches a Bible study for women the Gramarcy Hill senior living center. Betty and her husband were missionaries with Continental Baptist Missions, and when the Lord took her husband Home in 1995, Betty continued to serve. “I just wish I could do more,” she exclaimed with an infectious smile. “Maybe after I get my pacemaker put in this month I will be able to do more for the Lord.”
