FLINT, Mich.—South Baptist Church held a variety show to feed souls and restock the church’s food pantry. The first Acting Up Coffee House Café offered a blend of music and drama to the Flint, Mich., community for a low entrance fee. Refreshments included a variety of desserts, specialty coffees donated by a local coffee company, and soft drinks.

Drama director Tami Rolfe says she wanted to create a variety night that wouldn’t break a family’s budget in this economy. “Where can you go for three or five dollars?” Tammy was quoted in the Flint Township News. “And we’re giving back to our community at the same time.”

Organizers collected donations of nonperishable food items at the event that will help feed the less fortunate in their community. Pastor Will Payne, the church’s outreach minister, says this program also gave people an opportunity to use their gifts to encourage and uplift others. “It is our desire to show God’s love in a practical way,” Payne says.

Tami Rolfe agrees, saying, “We just want to model the love of Jesus—not talking about it—doing it, feeding and taking care of people.”
