Scholarship Bike Ride Raises $1300

LONDON, Ohio—The bike ride was supposed to be a pleasant fall ride along Ohio’s wonderful Little Miami Scenic Trail, until a leftover storm from Hurricane Ike left the bikers pedaling through a downpour.

Sharon Taylor of Northern Light Ministries said the ride was a success, despite the poor weather.

“Even though they were soaked to the bone early, spirits remained high through out the day,” Taylor said. “The sweet fellowship at lunch was a highlight. Calvary Baptist of Oberlin, Camden Baptist, First Baptist of Elyria, and Northern Light Ministries did an outstanding job of supplying snacks, lunch, and support personnel.”

Despite the rain, seventeen riders raised more than $1300 to sponsor a young person heading into Baptist ministry. The event was sponsored by churches in fellowship with the Ohio Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

Organizers had planned a bike ride for everyone. The Century Riders were to complete a 100 mile circuit that started and ended in London. Enthusiast Riders had a slightly less rigorous 70 mile path. Fun Riders took a 40 mile ride from London to Cedarville and back, and Family Friendly Riders had an “easy” 22 mile ride.

As it turned out, the Century Riders on the northern trek endured pouring rain, while the riders on the shorter southern route enjoyed a pleasant overcast day.

Dave Warren, state representative for the OARBC, said the group is planning a second bike ride next September. “This can be a lot of fun and very profitable for the Lord’s work in a young person’s life,” Warren said. “It is good exercise, too!”
