One Million Visit Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa State Fair recorded more than one million visitors this year. The Regular Baptist Fair Booth had a steady flow of people—many curious, many appreciative, and some mocking and debating. Opportunities to strike up conversations were constant. A nine-foot cutaway model of Noah’s ark with two model trains circling it drew in children and their sometimes reluctant parents. Four monitors played two-minute video segments demonstrating God’s design in creation and the reliability of the Bible. Booth workers also gave away thousands of brochures from Answers in Genesis that covered topics including dinosaurs, carbon dating, origin of the human races, Noah’s ark and the flood, and length of creation (six days or millions of years).

Booth workers attempted to find out where the visitors were from, if they attended church anywhere, and what connections they had with the fair. The workers offered visitors a wordless wristband and color-coordinated bookmark and explained the gospel to them. Approximately 13,000 wristbands and bookmarks were given away during the 10 days.

Most years end up with eight slots not filled the day before the fair starts. This year only four were unfilled the day before. Fourteen Iowa churches and Faith Baptist Bible College provided people to represent Christ and witness. Other individuals made sure uncovered slots were filled. The IARBC gives a big thank-you to all who helped and who supported the booth financially.
