Obeying God’s Call to the Chaplaincy

MODESTO, Calif.—William “Bil” Christopher received endorsement from Sovereign Grace Baptist Church and the GARBC Chaplaincy Commission. For future ministry, Bil is pursuing an MDiv from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary via its distance-learning program.

Bil comes from a large military family in which military service is an honor rather than an obligation. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he spent much of his enlistment on deployment in the Middle East. After marrying his wife, Kazuko, he decided to forgo reenlistment and focus on finishing college.

Shortly after returning to the U.S., Bil was saved and began seeking God’s will for his life. Within a few years Bil began to feel the call to ministry but tried everything he could to ignore and avoid it. Almost nine years later he found himself faced with the reality that he could no longer ignore God’s call, and he took the necessary steps to begin seminary. Bil hopes to return to military service as a military chaplain upon completion of his degree. His current ministry consists of preaching at the Modesto and Stockton Gospel Missions as well as serving as a leader in Sovereign Grace Baptist Church’s Awana program.
