CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.—A leadership team with Project Jerusalem, a ministry of Baptist Bible Seminary, recently planted a new church called Mountain Stream Baptist, located in the Marshalls Creek/Bushkill area of Pennsylvania about an hour away from the BBS campus. Great rejoicing occurred on Oct. 4, as the church celebrated its first anniversary. Average attendance is 110 people, with Mountain Stream ministering to a growing population consisting of people moving into the Poconos primarily from New York City and New Jersey.

The celebration included a joyous time of looking back over the past year. An estimated 130 people attended the morning service in which Pastor James Richards preached, including representatives from supporting and partnering congregations. Surprisingly, those in attendance represented more than 10 nations, including Brazil, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad, China, and India.

In the 4:00 p.m. organizational service, 25 initial charter members were received, and the congregation declared itself to be a New Testament church, meeting all the Biblical criteria. Charter members then formally adopted a church constitution, statement of faith, and church covenant as their founding documents. More than 200 people came to rejoice with Mountain Stream as they witnessed the chartering service. President Jim Jeffery preached a message on God’s plan for the local church, followed by a huge fellowship meal served by the church ladies.

With two growing multiethnic congregations in the Poconos, Mountain Stream and also Living Hope Baptist, Project Jerusalem leaders are now refocusing on taking planting teams to New York City.
