Men Are Mugs; Women Are Goblets

Sunshine Bapt. Fellowship Pastors’ and Wives’ Retreat

SEBRING, Fla.—As Dr. David Warren spoke to 15 couples at the 2011 Sunshine Baptist Fellowship Pastors’ and Wives’ Retreat, he emphasized the differences between husbands and wives by comparing them to beverage holders: “Men are mugs; women are goblets,” he said.

He was going over a husband’s responsibilities to care for his wife when laughter erupted: one of the wives had not too quietly asked her husband, “Honey, are you getting all of this?”

That was only one of the times of laughter the couples enjoyed during the retreat. Aaron Snyder of Camp Sparta helped the couples remember the fun of play by leading them in camp-style games. The couples also spent time relaxing in the hotel pool, dining together, and chatting with friends.

The retreat was held, in part, at the Inn on the Lakes Hotel in Sebring. The pastors and missionaries—from as far north as Jacksonville and as far south as Miami—benefited from the two days spent with their colleagues. The four teaching sessions were especially helpful. David Warren, state representative for the Ohio Association of Regular Baptist Churches, shared his speaking responsibilities with his wife, Pat. Their teaching focused on marriage, keeping a marriage strong, and encouraging good marriage relationships within the church. Ben Kurz, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Lake City, says, “Truly all were challenged and encouraged by the Word preached.”

While most of the retreat was held right at Inn on the Lakes, the final session was hosted by Southside Baptist Church in Sebring. Following lunch, Dr. Warren closed the retreat with a Q&A time and final thoughts from God’s Word.

Ben says special thanks go to Jim Stultz, Chuck Pausley, Aaron Snyder, and David Altman—all members of the Sunshine Baptist Fellowship’s Council of Ten—for their hands-on work in planning and running the retreat.
