DES MOINES, Iowa—Four veterans who grew up at Grandview Park Baptist Church in Des Moines have returned home from a visit to the World War II monument in Washington, D.C., a trip sponsored by Central Iowa Honor Flight.
Bob Burkhart, Archie Hindal, Bill Hines, and Gib Williams boarded a flight from Des Moines with more than 350 veterans. The group flew to Washington, rode on 11 chartered busses to visit each war memorial, and returned to Des Moines the same evening. HyVee, Inc., a West Des Moines–based grocer, donated $250,000 to fund the trip.
