WESTFIELD, Wis.—Camp Fairwood of the Wisconsin Association of Regular Baptist Churches reports serious damage to several cabins and their contents as the result of what could be more than 100 inches of snowfall by the time the winter of 2007-2008 is over. The building that houses Elijah, Moses, and Josiah cabins is a total loss after ice and snow collapsed the roof, which in turn caused the walls to buckle and fall outward. Fortunately, there were no injuries, since the facilities are unheated and therefore not used in the winter. Bunks, mattresses, and bathroom fixtures may be damaged beyond use. Insurance may cover some of the loss, but it is anticipated that it will be well short of covering the cost of a new building. The camp wishes to rebuild as soon as possible and volunteers, including carpenters, electricians, plumbers, roofers, and general helpers, will be needed in every stage of the restoration process. Camp personnel ask for prayer.
On a brighter note, the beautiful white snow provided great sledding conditions for some greatly successful winter snow camps.
