Grace Children’s Home, Nepal—Update

“I am praising God for His working in the two months while I was in Asia,” reports Diane Clements, pastor’s wife from First Baptist Church, West Sacramento, California. Diane started and now ministers at Grace Children’s Home in Pokhara, Nepal. Her story as an “everyday wife and mother who steps out in faith to rescue the poor” was featured in The Baptist Bulletin’s November 2005 issue. Diane recently returned from a lengthy visit to the orphanage and surrounding region. Here are some photos and updates of her ministry. View the original article from 2005.

“I thank Him for the good visit and all the work accomplished at Grace Home and for the addition of 11 children to our Grace Home families. . . . I praise Him continually for each one of you who joined me in my travels and adventures through your prayers. What a blessing you were to me!” When Diane is not visiting Nepal, she joins her husband, Gary, in his ministry as pastor of First Baptist Church, West Sacramento, California. Diane and Gary are the parents of five grown children.

Help Needed: Five-year-old Alisha is from southern Nepal. Her father died when she was very small and soon afterwards her mother abandoned her, leaving her to live with her elderly, poverty-stricken grandfather. Alisha’s growth was stunted by poor nutrition and repeated bouts of pneumonia, left untreated since her grandfather could not afford medical attention. Last fall she came to live at the Sunshine Home (a ministry of Grace Children’s Homes) and upon medical evaluation, it was discovered that she was born with a hole in her heart that would cause her heart to burst as she grows. Alisha was scheduled for reparative surgery in April, but by then her heart was beyond repair and her only hope is a heart transplant. Pediatric heart transplants are not available in Asia and the doctors in Kathmandu have basically sent her home to die, with less than 2 years to live. To save her life we must bring her to the U.S.A., but we need prayer and wisdom to find a doctor in a transplant center who will assist us and an organization that will help us fund such an expensive surgery. We have a great and wonderful God who loves Alisha and who can do all things for this incredibly precious little life.
