To build more bridges of ministry to its community, Urbandale Baptist Church of Des Moines, Iowa, joined the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce. Pastor Richard Dayton suggested to the chamber that the church, the chamber, and the Urbandale Jaycees could cooperate together on a community blood drive hosted by the church, and the idea took off. Pastor Dayton wrote a tract saying, “Giving Blood Means Giving Life.” A church member edited and printed the tract for distribution at the blood drive, which was held November 16. The Blood Center of Central Iowa brought its staff to the church, and its director was pleased with the community support. Urbandale Baptist Church members operated a refreshments table, mingled with the donors, and helped set up and take down equipment.
