BATTLE CREEK, Mich.—Walt and Nellie Brill of Calvary Baptist Church, Battle Creek, Mich., were recently awarded the Michigan Habitat for Humanity Volunteer of the Year award. Nellie was highlighted in the March/April Baptist Bulletin for her creative ways of connecting women.

Besides working with her church’s Stephen Ministry, where she visits on a weekly basis a special individual who is lonely, discouraged, or grieving, she has also been involved in her community. Nellie shared, “I’m on the Family Partnering committee at our local Habitat for Humanity, where we connect with the families selected for Habitat homes. I’ve found that working with a gal while painting, drywall finishing, etc., gives me a unique opportunity to share her struggles, hopes, and dreams while encouraging her and sharing my faith.”

She also spends time with women in her neighborhood. Nellie recently started a prayer and share time with some women at her house that she hopes could lead to a Bible study.

Now that she is retired, Nellie Brill likes to connect with women outside her usual circle of friends at Calvary Baptist.
