CORNING, N.Y.—Shopping for bargains on Market Street, playing table games, viewing the movie Fireproof, competing in zany games to win boxes of candy, eating meals together: these fun activities might be regarded as frosting on the cake for 87 couples from 45 churches, mostly from the Empire State Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches, who participated in a couples’ holiday getaway at the Radisson Hotel.

The theme was “Lovingly Connected: Building Closeness in Marriage.” Couples learned important Biblical truths on this subject as Dr. Mike Peck, vice president of Baptist Church Planters and experienced marriage counselor, enhanced his four sessions with humor, illustrations, and practical, easy-to-grasp principles. During a round-table discussion, the couples laughed and learned a lot about marriage from the cartoon characters Leroy and Loretta Lockhorn.

Craig Golden, state representative for the Empire State Fellowship, summed up the experience by saying, “It truly was a blessed and beneficial time for all the couples, from the recently married to those who recently celebrated their 50th.”
