Serving with Joyful Hearts in Germany

A team of 18 teens and six sponsors from Ankeny (Iowa) Baptist Church traveled to Ingelheim, Germany, to work with Baptist Mid-Missions missionaries Luke and Bethany Snell. Ankeny Baptist is the sending church for the Snell family.

The Ankeny team helped the Snells’ church in Ingelheim host Vacation Bible School. “We are so thankful for the many kids who came and heard the gospel,” Bethany says.

“With only about 20 members in our church, we are thankful for the missions groups that come to help each year,” Bethany adds. “This year it was a privilege to have a group come from our sending church.”

Prior to VBS, the Ankeny team spent a few days canvassing the entire city of Ingelheim. Then the team staffed VBS, helping with games, crafts, snacks, and other elements throughout the week.

In spite of the language barrier, the children who attended VBS loved interacting with the American teenagers. The team learned basic words and phrases in German, and the church made sure translators were available at all the VBS stations.

To follow up with the kids and their families, the Ingelheim church will host a Kids Fun Day in September. The church has already invited every child who attended VBS and prays that many relationships will be established as a result.

“We are very thankful for the group’s ministry to our church and help in VBS,” Bethany says of the Ankeny team. “They came ready to work hard and served with joyful hearts and were a great blessing to us and our church. We pray that their hearts will have been opened to missions and burdened for the spiritual need in Germany.”
