First Baptist Church, Cape Fair, Missouri, celebrated paying off its mortgage early. The church family marked the occasion by burning the promissory note during a worship service Sept. 24.
However, 15 minutes before the service began, the electricity went out. It “stayed out through the service and the luncheon that followed,” the church says.
“Not having power didn’t slow us down a bit,” the church says. “Our Sunday School classes didn’t miss a beat, and the service was very special with all acoustic worship and no microphones. Unfortunately, that also meant no Facebook livestream for our folks that join us each Sunday in that way.”
Sept. 24 was a “very special day in the life of this very special church,” First Baptist says. “It certainly will be a morning to remember!”
And the culprit that caused the power outage? A squirrel.
