DOP-Oswego_INOSWEGO, Ill.—Churches and individuals across the country participated in the National Day of Prayer May 1, including Harvest Baptist Church. Members held a prayer service at Oswego’s City Hall. “It is only natural for our church, which places so much emphasis on prayer, to go to our City Hall on the National Day of Prayer and pray,” says Mickey Farlow, pastor of care ministries. He explains, “Pastor Scott [Poling] places a high priority on prayer for everything we do. We pray before every meeting we have, even if it is just two or three people. We took time in all five of our worship services the week before Easter and asked everyone to get in small groups and pray for Easter. We print an extensive prayer sheet every week with prayer requests and spend time on Wednesday night to pray for these needs.” At City Hall, Pastor Poling opened the service in prayer, representatives of the military and fire department led a flag ceremony, and everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang “God Bless America.” Pastors led in prayer for elected officials, the military, and the nation. Then everyone broke up into small groups to pray.
