Busy Day Concludes with Stirring Service

ELYRIA, Ohio—The auditorium of First Baptist Church was packed on Wednesday night as several local churches joined the messengers attending the 2009 GARBC Conference. Jeremy Thomas led the combined choirs of the Hebron Fellowship as more than 1,100 conference guests joined in singing.

At the suggestion of younger pastors in the GARBC Quest group, Wednesday afternoon was devoted to roundtable discussions led by four experts in dispensational theology: Dr. John Hartog led “The Biblical Covenants,” Dr. Mike Stallard led “Hermeneutics and Dispensationalism,” Dr. Renald Showers led “Progressive Dispensationalism,” and Dr. Kevin Bauder led “Theological Issues Related to Dispensationalism.”

Earlier in the day, Chaplain John Murdoch reported about the GARBC Chaplaincy Ministries. Chaplain Murdoch also presented his wife, Hope, with flowers commemorating their 40th wedding anniversary and 40 years of ministry. “I want the chaplains’ hour to focus on the guys. Because I try to honor their spouses every year, I knew I should do something to honor my wife this year.”

After the presentation, Chaplain Murdoch said to his wife, “Hon, I didn’t want to embarrass you, but I did want to surprise you!” (Hope’s reply: “I think you did both!”)

Jim Vogel, associate national representative for the GARBC, presented his ministry to a group of more than 200 pastors—and also presented each pastor with a free set of books on dispensational theology. Vogel continues to have a wide-ranging ministry of support and care for GARBC pastors.
