NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Broadview Baptist Church celebrated its 50th anniversary May 3 with special events. Jeff Snyder is the current pastor. The celebration began Saturday evening, May 2 with skits, stories, and reminiscing called “The Lighter Side of Broadview,” followed by refreshments.

Broadview Baptist was originally incorporated on Mother’s Day 1961. Before that time it was known as Broadview Baptist Chapel. Broadview has had only six pastors in the past 50 years, so it was special to have former pastor and wife Allen and Ellen Balsley joining in the fellowship, with some of their grown children also present. On Sunday morning Steve Straub, grandson of Pastor Balsley, brought the message. A carry-in dinner followed the morning service, and a special afternoon service featured the theme of praising God for all He has done at Broadview in the last 50 years.

The church’s building was severely damaged by Hurricane Wilma on Oct. 24, 2005, and the congregation received financial assistance from Baptist Builders Club USA to put things back together, which included replacing the blown-off roof, rebuilding classrooms and the foyer, and repairing water damage to the auditorium.
