Virgil Redmond, Missionary

Kenai, Alaska—Missionary Virgil Redmond, 90, died Nov. 17, 2018. He spent nearly 40 years planting churches in Alaska.

Virgil was born Sept. 22, 1928, in West Branch, Michigan. He served in the US Army, later graduating from Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and becoming a missionary with Baptist Mid-Missions.

Virgil and his wife, Nyladine, were commissioned by North Park Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. The Redmonds led seven church plants in Alaska. He also served many years as a prison chaplain in Alaska and Arizona, most recently at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, Alaska. Virgil was a member of Sterling (Alaska) Baptist Church.

Nyladine passed away in 2016. Virgil is survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Paul Casey; son Richard; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sonja; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
