PARKERSBURG, W. Va.—Oct. 1–3 were days of great joy at Bible Baptist Church as former and current members celebrated 50 years of God’s faithfulness.

Chartered on Aug. 11, 1960, with 20 members under the leadership of missionary Don Curtis of the Fellowship of Baptists for Home Missions, this Lighthouse has seen the faithful hand of God in many ways.

Former pastors Don Matheny (1988–1995) and Scott Farrell (1995–2003) shared examples of God’s faithfulness. Current pastor Dan Stevens challenged guests to be as “faithful to God as He has been faithful to us.”

The church’s greatest blessings are the laborers into the harvest field who have been a part of the Bible Baptist family. Some of these servants are Richard Smith, pastor at Eastwood Bible Church, Parkersburg, W. Va.; Paul White, who was pastor of Long Valley Baptist Church, Wileyville, W. Va.; Ed Decker, who has pastored churches in West Virginia and Illinois; Steve Lucas, with whom the church has lost contact, but was last known to be serving in a church in the Midwest; Cynthia Eckart McVey, who with her husband, Bill, served in Christian schools, Jewish ministries, and the pastorate; Lars and Phyllis (Jenkins) Wessberg, missionaries with Committee On Missionary Evangelism. Currently Eric Tucker and his sister Janie are attending Appalachian Bible College in preparation for future ministries.

Bible Baptist Church looks ahead to the next 50 years with the challenge to be “faithful to God, because He will be faithful to us.”
