ROCHESTER, Minn.—Men and boys enjoyed an event at Calvary Baptist Church called Inspire: Teaching Our Boys to Become Men. Twenty-one booths on Sept. 29 highlighted some of the interests of men in the church, including welding, engine rebuilding, construction, photography, lathe, models, camping, archery, and horsemanship.
The youth sat in a stock car and mud truck and had rides in a dune buggy and go-carts. They learned the use of tools, and had hands-on training in replacing brake pads and performing oil changes. The day also included a roping demonstration, remote-control planes and helicopters, and Dutch oven cooking. Some of the men brought old cars, including a ’72 Cutlass and a ’71 Jaguar XKE.
The men and boys gained not only practical knowledge but spiritual knowledge, as the gospel was presented in a devotional and object lessons.
Pastor Dwight LaPine, Assistant Pastor Gene Murrell, and Youth Pastor Logan Friess say it was one of the best events the church has ever had. “We will definitely do it again,” they say. “It was exciting to see men and boys from the community come and meet guys from the church!”
