Lessons on Love at Arizona Family Conference

By December 8, 2023No Comments

The Arizona Association of Regular Baptist Churches met for its Family Conference at Grace Baptist Church in Scottsdale. Encouragement, preaching, teaching, and prayer for entire families were features of the two-day conference.

Teaching from the Song of Solomon, Tim and Angela Little shared lessons on love. Tim is professor of Hebrew, Old Testament, and discipleship at Faith Baptist Theological Seminary. He spoke during main sessions, and Angela spoke to the women during a separate session.

Tim, a father of young children, had taught Hebrew for nearly 10 years and “was still confused when it came to the Song’s message,” he writes in his article “A Song for Married Ears Only?” to be published in the Winter 2024 Baptist Bulletin.

“When students asked about its message, I would respond, ‘That’s one of those books I still need to study.’”

Study it he did. Tim and Angela ended up writing Song of Songs for Singles—and Married People Too.*

The Song of Solomon at a family conference? “Churches need to reject the popular sentiment that the Song of Solomon is for married couples only,” Tim writes. “I’ve became convinced that the children we rear and teach need to read and study the Song of Solomon. Now more than ever, children need wholistic instruction concerning sexuality so that they may be mature, ‘thoroughly equipped for every good work’ (2 Tim. 3:17).”

Young adults and singles, too, need to learn the Song of Solomon’s lessons on love.

Tim writes, “As I teach on the Song, individuals approach me, lamenting, ‘I wish I had been taught that information thirty years ago. It could have saved me so much pain.’ I lament with them. I, too, wish I had learned the theology of the Song of Solomon earlier.”
