Doris M. Tassell, a schoolteacher and loving wife and mother who served alongside her husband in ministry, died October 17 in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. She was 92.

Doris, born May Doris Jaeger, grew up in Trenton, New Jersey, and attended Bob Jones University, graduating with a degree in education in 1956.

She married Paul N. Tassell on August 4, 1956. They were married 46 years until his death in 2002. She served alongside Paul as he pastored churches in Georgia, Illinois, and Iowa, and as he served as the national representative of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches from 1979 to 1994. She faithfully traveled with Paul and cared for him when he developed Parkinson’s disease.

Doris loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and touched countless lives with His truth as a Sunday School teacher and ladies’ event speaker. She was influential and inspirational in the lives of her three children, their spouses, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John Greening, national representative of the GARBC from 1996 to 2018, says, “My wife, Daria, and I have long admired Doris as a loving and supportive wife and mother, with a deep enduring faith, a keen mind, a quiet elegance, and a subtle sense of humor. She leaves for her family and friends a godly legacy of excellence in all of life.”

Doris is survived by her daughters, Jann Tassell of Canton, Illinois, and Jill Osborne (Nathan) of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; her son, Joseph Tassell (Deborah) of North Adams, Michigan; nine grandchildren and their spouses; and five great-grandchildren.
