Church Search Tips
1. Pray and inform.
Pray for the need regularly in your church services. Encourage your people to do the same. Keep the church informed as things move along.
2. Describe the job thoroughly.
When writing your job description, try to keep it to one page. This will help ensure it has pertinent information but not too many details. It does not need to list everything the pastor does, but it needs to have the major points: clarity on what he does and what he might just oversee. Include a salary range in any posted information. A list of benefits is also helpful.
3. Promote your community and church.
Within the job posting, share things that a newcomer to your church and community might find interesting and enjoyable. Consider including both community and church website links in your posting to help with this.
4. Communicate clearly.
The better your communication, the greater the chance you will attract interest. Make sure to include email and phone information in the posting so prospects can easily reach out with questions.
5. Respond promptly.
Make sure someone is promptly responding to any inquiries. Let candidates know when their resume will be reviewed, so they know when to expect a reply. Remember: When you are job searching, a day feels like a week, and a week feels like a month.
6. Conduct a background check.
Although all pastors who are registered on this site have indicated they agree with the doctrine of RBM, it is the church’s responsibility to confirm this during the interview process. It is also strongly suggested that a church does a background check on a person they are considering for a pastoral position. Your church insurance company can probably help you with this. You do need the person’s permission to do a background check.
