MARILLA, N.Y.—Memorial Day weekend events in Marilla included an “Honor Veterans” patriotic service at First Baptist Church. On Sunday, May 24, 450 people gathered to pay tribute to America’s veterans, with special recognition paid to 12 World War II vets. Guests included more than 40 veterans from western New York, as well as various elected officials from local town, county, and state governments. The church’s choir, under the direction of Michael Briggs, performed a portion of the patriotic cantata The Home of the Brave. Pastor Richard L. Seefried, pastor at First Baptist, preached “Seek the Old Paths” from Jeremiah 6:16. After the service, attendees enjoyed a catered chicken-barbeque dinner in the church’s gymnasium.
