A Pastor’s Reflections on the Conference

by Richard Van Heukelum

It is hard to go wrong with a conference theme of “I Will Build My Church,” especially with the backdrop setting of lush farmland in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Personally, I left the conference refreshed and revived. The conference helped to renew my focus and commitment to God’s ministry (building God’s church) and God’s method (Authorial intent preaching).

I was also encouraged by the kindred spirit and joy that existed at the Conference.

Finally, I was encouraged to see many young pastors attend who desire to be an active part of our future. I left challenged with this thought: “How can we incorporate the younger men into an active role in our Fellowship?” These men will enable the GARBC to have a strong future.

Pastor Richard Van Heukelum is the pastor of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church in Waterloo, IA. At the Annual Conference Pastor Van Heukelum was voted to continue to serve on the Council of Eighteen. He will be serving as the chairman of the Council for this year.
