IPFBM Visits Liberia

Chris and Deb HindalLiberia of GARBC International Ministries returned from Liberia, Africa, after completing a two-week ministry in that country. Liberia is an economically depressed country that has gone through 10 years of civil strife. Many of the families live in homes of mud blocks and rely on the sale of their garden fruits and vegetables for an income. Liberia was founded as an American colony. Christian influence can be seen throughout the country on taxis and business signs. Currently, approximately 100 churches are akin to the GARBC.

Chris and Deb went to Liberia on an invitation from the African Fundamental Baptist Mission (AFBM), partner with the International Partnership of Fundamental Baptist Churches. Chris and Deb both participated in the second annual post-war conference of the AFBM. Ten churches and 10 Bible fellowships were present, with a total of 391 people attending. Chris spoke to the men, as well as in the main session, on the theme “Planning with God” from James 4:13 and 14. Deb led the women’s sessions.

The Lord worked mightily through this conference. Many people responded to invitations, including 12 young people who committed to attend Bible school and prepare for the ministry.

Chris and Deb also had the opportunity to visit six facilities for children and orphans. Many of these facilities are partners with Baptist Children’s Home.

The Hindals also visited with the Liberian ABWE missionary team, discussing their vision for Liberia and touring their facilities, including the AFBM medical clinic. Chris ministered to many of the patients through a sermon.

Chris and Deb left Liberia with an overwhelming sense of a nation in economic, social, moral, and spiritual crisis. Most of the congregations are filled with professing believers who have minimal education or are illiterate. Discipleship and leadership training presents a formidable challenge; however, Gospel Literature Services is looking at how they can help through supplying Sunday School materials.

God is doing a great work around the world, and we stand amazed as He sovereignly builds His church.
