Great Week for Students Alive!
Spiritual food, friendships, and fun made for an exciting Students Alive! program led by Lance Augsburger during the 2009 GARBC Conference. On Tuesday night the teens participated in a community outreach by distributing cookies and invitations to Elyria residents to attend church services. During the Wednesday youth rally students enjoyed driving go karts, playing laser tag, navigating bumper boats, and golfing at Swings and Things. On Thursday morning, National Representative John Greening presented GARBC Student Service Awards to McKenzie Baker, Katie Foy, and Jennifer Nierman. See Baptist Bulletin. Each morning and evening students received challenges from God’s Word. Next year Students Alive! will take place in the Chicago area in Arlington Heights, IL,–a great place to bring your youth group!
Talents For Christ Shines
During the 2009 GARBC Conference week over 100 students competed in Talents For Christ (TFC). You may see the outstanding list of TFC winners and runners up on the TFC website. Participants who provided music during Thursday and Friday Conference sessions included
Kaylee Good (female voice), Aaron Hixson (male voice), Erich Sandersfeld (oral interpretation of Scripture), Virginia Liebert (piano), Ben Hicks (preaching), and Hanna Javaux (strings). Our Association applauds all students who participated in this year’s TFC competition!
A special thanks to the following colleges for providing scholarships for TFC winners: Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, Faith Baptist Bible College, Ankeny, Iowa, Piedmont Baptist College, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Shasta Bible College, Redding, California!

Pastors and Wives Meeting
Jim and Jeannie Vogel will be meeting with pastors and wives on Wednesday at the Conference, 6:00 p.m. Don’t miss this time of special time of interaction! Pastors and wives, encourage one another in your work for the Lord. The first 250 pastors who register for the Conference receive a free set of valuable books.
Golf Tournament
Start the conference week off swinging! The annual nine-hole golf tournament will be held on Monday, June 22, 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. $35 for green fees, cart, and prizes. Attention: Churches in OH and Neighboring States
Do you have an individual or couple in your church who serves the Lord in an outstanding manner? Take time to honor that person or couple by nominating him/her/them for the 2009 GARBC Service Award. Recipients will be honored at the GARBC Conference in Elyria, Ohio. Many churches are within driving distance of the Conference so award recipients may be able to attend the time of recognition. Even if recipients are unable to attend, a tribute will be read in their honor. Nominations are open to any church in the GARBC. You may download a nomination form or submit your nomination online. Hurry, the deadline is April 1st.

Your youth group can still jump in! Group competitions are still open for registration. Pull your teens together to use their talents to showcase Christ. TFC: Developing Teens for Ministry
Talents For Christ (TFC) provides a wonderful opportunity for teens to develop confidence and skills for serving the Lord. Teens can participate as individuals or as part of a group in scholarship or open (non-scholarship) competitions at state and national levels. Group competition fosters camaraderie among youth group members and with youth groups across the country. Check out the new open category–instrumental ensemble. Meet Conference Speaker
Jerry Lancaster, pastor of Starkey Road Baptist Church, Seminole, Florida, will be a featured main session and workshop speaker on Wednesday, June 25, at the GARBC Conference. You will enjoy Jerry’s dynamic ministry of the Word and his warm-hearted manner. Since Jerry became pastor of Starkey Road Baptist Church in 1983, the Lord has used him to lead the church through six building programs, with the church growing in membership from sixty members to more than twelve hundred members. He is a frequent speaker on Radio Pulpit, WKES, and has co-authored, Jesus’ Celebration of Hanukkah in John 10 (Bibliotheca Sacra). He serves on the General Council of Baptist Mid-Missions and on the Board of the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. Jerry, and his wife, Joy, have three married daughters.

Great Teen Program!
Excellent speakers—fun activities—friendship-building interaction—teens will find all of this and more at Students Alive!, a conference for 7th-12th graders held in conjunction with the GARBC Conference, June 24-27. Students Alive! encourages teens to serve God with their lives and to consider vocational ministry. This year’s conference speakers include Tom Webber, GARBC Navy Chaplain, Tim Snyder, Baptist Bible College Admissions Counselor, Pat Odle, Faith Baptist Bible College Vice-president and Chaplain, and John Greening, GARBC National Representative. A panel discussion on the topic of serving in vocational ministry by using talents and abilities will take place. A highlight of the week will be the Wednesday evening Youth Rally in which 400+ teens from around the country are expected to attend. All teens are invited!
