Putting Others First: November 2009

GARBC Logo Share your GARBC Sunday Story!

During October churches across the country celebrated GARBC Sunday. What did your church do for its GARBC Sunday? Share your stories and photos with the Resource Center staff.

Fran Cupples, wife of Pastor Roy Cupples, Victory Baptist Church, Fullerton, Nebraska, writes, “Today was ‘GARBC Sunday’ for churches that belong to the General Assembly of Regular Baptist Churches, of which we are a part. Some time ago we received information in the mail from our association along with a CD. We used the info to plan our morning service and also showed the CD to our church family. I, personally, appreciated the fine CD and the information on it and the opportunity to share it with our folks. Hopefully, they know a little bit more about the GARBC and how our church benefits from being a part of it. Several of our people gave testimony concerning the Regular Baptist Press materials we use at Victory Baptist and how they like it and Phil spoke about the camp’s involvement with other camps in the association.”

It’s not too late to celebrate GARBC Sunday. November is the month of Thanksgiving. Give thanks for your association by hosting a GARBC Sunday!

GARBC Sunday, Oct. 18!

GARBC LogoTogether We Can Accomplish More is the theme of our GARBC fellowship. It is good when church families not only care for their own needs, but also for the needs of other churches. Investing prayer and financial support in the Association yields great dividends for your church and for your sister churches in the GARBC.

Be part of something big by celebrating the GARBC in your church Oct. 18 (or any Sunday in October)! Promotion materials are on the way to each church in the GARBC, including a poster, bulletin insert, and DVD presentation, which will be great tools in helping you communicate the far-reaching ministry of the GARBC. Check our GARBC Sunday website for additional resources.

As part of the day, churches are asked to receive an offering to help with the financial needs of GARBC ministries. Support your association and help your people understand the GARBC motto, Together We Can Accomplish More! Your friends at the GARBC Resource Center would love to hear about your celebration. Please send us a photo and six sentences that tell about your church’s GARBC Sunday!

Think BIG, Think INDIA!

Encourage your youth or church group to accomplish great things for God’s glory. Pastor H. C. Stephen in Churachandpur, NE India, is asking for workers from GARBC churches to assist in hosting their VBS next July. This year’s attendance registered at 591, with 134 students professing faith in Christ. Next year they are planning a joint VBS for the schools and churches and are anticipating 1,000 students. This will be a great cross-cultural experience. For more information, contact Pastor Stephen at hcstephens@yahoo.com.

Compassion in Action

Liberia ClassWe have so much, but others have so little. Are you and your church willing to share the spiritual and material wealth that we enjoy in this country? Read on to learn of International Ministry needs and how we can be involved. (Photo: Liberian children in Sunday School but with no Bible materials.)

  • Join Formula 300—For $30 per month, you can help care for shipping costs of Sunday School and VBS curriculum that Regular Baptist Press donates to 40 countries around the world. By doing so, you are directly helping internationals learn the Word of God.
  • Sponsor an international pastor to attend the November International Partnership of Fundamental Baptist Ministries Conference in Bangkok. Many of our international partners would like to attend but do not have the funds to do so. You can pay for their registration at $150 per person or assist in their airfare (a ticket for a pastor from Africa costs $1,200).

E-mail Chris Hindal if you would like to learn more about helping these international brothers and ministries. You may also donate online. A little makes a lot when our efforts are combined!

Helping Children Support Missions

Can you remember what fun it was to fill a piggy bank with pennies when you were a child? GospelGLS Bank Literature Services will give you a piggy bank for kids to fill to provide Sunday School and VBS materials to other children far away. The Kids for GLS project is a great way for a family, a Sunday School class, or a Christian school class to build interest in missions. These funds will help pay the shipping costs to get these resources to Asia, Africa, India, and other needy lands.

Supplying Puppets for Children in India

Padma Kumar, pastor’s wife in Secunderabad, India, ministers to hundreds of children each month with Regular Baptist Press materials supplied by Gospel Literature Services. Their association of churches, Jehovah-Jireh Baptist Ministry, one of the GARBC’s international partners, reaches into the tribal areas of India to teach boys and girls about Christ’s salvation.  Padma would like to enhance her teaching by the use of puppets.  Individuals or groups who would like to assist this ministry by making puppets with darker skin like Indian children may email  Padma  for more information.

Interceding through PrayerLink

Praise the Lord that cancer patient Ruby Hol, the  young daughter of Pastor Trent and Lydia Hol, Willow Creek Baptist of West Des Moines, was at the GARBC Conference! We had listed the request for Ruby on GARBC’s online PrayerLink and many of you prayed for her. She had received a good report from her doctor prior to coming to the Conference. Through PrayerLink you can share requests regarding physical needs or garner prayer support for upcoming outreach events or  special ministries that your church is undertaking. It’s good to have the Association family supporting you through the ministry of prayer. Together we can pray more!

Honoring Service Award Recipients

Thank you to Pastor Tom Alexander Pastor Kevin Boggs, Pastor Aaron Hand, Rev. Attention GARBC Pastors!

In 1999 the GARBC initiated an international partnership to reach out to associations of fundamental independent Baptist church associations around the globe.  Our missionaries have been laboring abroad throughout our nearly eighty-year history.  In many countries where the gospel has been fruitful, local churches have been established and they have formed associations, similar to our own. Fifty-four such associations have joined with us in the International Partnership of Fundamental Baptist Ministries (IPFBM).   After ten years of correspondence and on-site visits by the GARBC directors, it is time to bring us all together for a first-ever IPFBM Conference to be held near Bangkok, Thailand at the beautiful Wangren Resort on November 4-7, 2009.
