David Lee Marsteller, Pastor

David Lee Marsteller, who served in ministry for over 50 years, died October 20. He was 89.

David and his wife, Shirley, married on August 10, 1957, after graduating with bachelor’s degrees from Bryan College, Dayton, Tennessee. They then moved to Michigan, where David attended Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Seminary.

David used the training he received to serve as pastor of three churches from 1961 to 2001, including Calvary Baptist Church, Sandusky, Ohio.

After David retired from the pulpit, he and Shirley moved to Lakeland, Florida. Considering Lakeland their home base of operations, David and Shirley served overseas in Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, and Taiwan as interim missionaries under Baptist World Mission from 2001 to 2014.

David’s love for Jesus was exemplified in all he did. He shared the gospel with everyone he met and led many people into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

David is remembered as a faithful man of God, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a lover of singing tenor in choirs, and a master of puns.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David Linden Marsteller and Stephen Andrew Marsteller.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley; daughters Kathy Lippincott, Karen Cunnien, and Krysten Helewa; grandchildren Lester and Sarah Lippincott, Laura (Lippincott) and Nathan Paugh, Leilani (Lippincott) and Ben Rodman, Luana (Lippincott) and John-Jay Barton, David Cunnien, Drew and Kayla Cunnien, Jenna Cunnien, Joel Cunnien, Kaeleb Cunnien, Aylin Marsteller, Amira Helewa, and Jasmine Helewa; and nine great-grandchildren.
