Women’s Missons Group Gives to Haiti Project

FOSTORIA, Ohio—The Ohio Women for Missions held its annual spring meeting at Fostoria Baptist Church. OWM, consisting of ladies in churches throughout Ohio, exists to promote missions and encourage missionaries. Women came to the daylong event from as far as Warren and Evansville on the east side of the state, Pickerington on the southeast side, and Cedarville on the southwest side, with many other churches represented in between.

Every woman had the opportunity to attend three Hands-on Workshops in the afternoon, which participants described as valuable and informative. The ladies shared missions project ideas and instructions, even how to make “cancer caps” for friends; they assembled bags of toiletries for missionaries and inner-city campers; and they filled Fostoria Baptist’s store that it maintains for local residents.

Every year the OWM ladies choose a missions project to complete. This year’s endeavor, “Project for Haiti,” included donating funds for the rebuilding of Metzler Memorial Youth Home in Haiti. The women exceeded their $10,000 goal with giving that totaled over $13,500.

At Metzler Memorial Youth Home, young Haitians have not only a safe haven but godly mentors. Dr. Hantz and Iguelle Bernard, who are well aquainted with the home’s work, were the event’s speakers. As teens, Hantz and Iguelle were saved in Haiti through the ministry of Evelyne and Rachel Metzler, Baptist Mid-Missions missionaries who led the Youth Home. Dr. Bernard went on to become a respected pastor in Haiti, ministering for many years before moving to the U.S. to serve as director of Bibles International.

The Bernards, noting that women make up 60 percent of the missionary force, expressed their appreciation for OWM, for the ladies’ support and encouragement of missionaries by their prayers, cards, other efforts. They reminded the women that God uses all of these acts of service to further His work.

At the end of the day, the ladies traveled home encouraged but also challenged to begin spreading the news and saving funds for the group’s new project—the Kosovo Leadership Academy led by ABWE missionary Nadine Hennesey. A DVD of Nadine’s story, When You Don’t See His Plan, is available by Day of Discovery.
