tedwelch_inlineSLATER, Iowa—Dr. Ted Welch, a pastor and missionary, died Oct. 11. He was 68.

Ted’s passion in life was his relationship with God. He became a missionary in 1974, heading to Ghana, West Africa, under the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. He served there faithfully for six years and then returned to the U.S., where he pastored churches in Dubuque and Osceola, Iowa, and Neosho, Missouri.

While serving in Osceola, Ted felt called to return to missions. He obtained his doctorate from Clarks Summit University and moved to Odessa, Ukraine, with his wife, Debra, to serve in a Bible institute there. In 2013, he returned home and discovered that he had cancer, with which he eventually lost his battle.

Ted was a willing giver, a great helper, a fantastic encourager and set a good example to those around him.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Whitney Dawn, in 1983 due to health complications.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, whom he married on July 31, 1970; a daughter, Sharon Crider; five sons, Jason, Chad (pastor of First Baptist Church, Farmington, Iowa), Sean, David, and Titus; and 16 grandchildren.
