GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Robert Clark Nelson, a church-planting pastor, died April 19. He was 97.

Bob served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Richmond, where he was introduced to Jesus Christ. He returned from the war with a zeal to serve the Lord.

He attended Nyack College, Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College, and Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Seminary. He then started and pastored five churches in Michigan: First Baptist Church in Edmore, Calvary Baptist Church in Owosso, First Baptist Church in Stanton, and churches in Saline and Ada. He was also a full-time elementary school teacher in Michigan’s Forest Hills School District and served in the Crossroads Prison Ministry for a number of years.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Maidie Alice, and a daughter, Nancy Cook.

He is survived by his daughters Judy Schutte and Carol Hoogterp; five grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
