MARTINEZ, Calif.—Melvin O. Jones, a church planter and pastor, died April 23. He was 92.
Mel Jones was a longtime church planter and pastor in the California Association of Regular Baptist Churches. His pastorates included Bethany Baptist Church, Martinez, California, which was founded in the city of Pleasant Hill. He was the first pastor of the church, serving from 1965 to 1975, and led the church to fellowship with the GARBC.
After pastoring Bethany Baptist Church, he became a Sunday School consultant for Regular Baptist Press. He was most recently pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church, Walnut Creek, California.
